I disagree to abolish the current Japanese employment system. Even if Japanese companies adopt the criteria of the world, many Japanese new graduates only get into trouble. Before Japan changes its current recruit system, the career education of Japan should be re-examined.
From the worldwide perspective, the Japanese employment system is exactly rare and it prevents the activation of the labor market. However, most of Japanese new graduates do not have the enough job experience and are not expected as the work-ready person. Thus, without the current employment system, many Japanese new graduates have difficulty to get a job. Actually, Japanese companies supply many programs for the new graduates to educate them.
It is not effective to change the current Japanese recruit system. To make the flexible labor market, like abroad, Japanese people have to prepare much more during in their school days. In North America and Canada, many people do some part time job at their high school days, and university students usually have job experience which is related with their future job. Thus, they start to prepare for their job earlier than Japanese people. On the other hand, most of Japanese high school students don’t experience any part time job and most of university students don’t experience working at the real companies. On the other hand, most of Japanese high school students don't experience any part time job and most of university students don't experience working at the real company. They don't have time to think about their future job like foreign countries students. Therefore, many Japanese new graduates cannot find proper job in the recruit system like abroad because they are short of future career plan.
It is difficult for Japanese students to consider about their future job because they are desperate to enter the good university. In Japan, there is a tendency to emphasize entering a good university. People tend to think that entering good university enable them get a good job. This Japanese national character makes the delay of job preparing of Japanese students.
For these reasons, current Japanese recruit system is suitable for Japanese people. As long as they don't change their mind about working, the criteria of the world are not effective.
