Does the telework improve the labour productivity?
The telework is a part of Work Style ReformIn and Japanese government is now promoting to introduce it. The Work Style Reform aims to correct the long hours work and to improve the labor productivity. However, I think the telework doesn't always improve the labor productivity. The reason is that I think the following case.
When creating document outside the office, it would become a hard task because of the short of the necessary materials. If the telework system is introduced to your workplace, your boss sometimes say “You can create the document at home.” However, at your home, you would feel "I wish I had now possessed the data which is in the office"s PC!” During the task, if you have some question, you can ask about it to your colleague, but he is not next to you at home. Therefore, It probably take you two hours to finish the task which you can done in an hour in the office.
When doing works at home, you have to prevent yourself from temptations. You can eat snacks, watch youtube videos and fall asleep if you desire. However, if you do that, you would feel bad about yourself. You also feel the frustration because you cannot proceed with the work as you think. Thus, you need more effort if you do works at home rather than at the office.
For many person, the telework is said to contribute to realize the good work-life balance, but some people would feel uncomfortable because the jobs invade into their private time. Telework system enables you to go trip with your family, however, at the same time, impose you to do job while traveling. I think dividing the job time and private time is important for good work-life balance, but the telework obscure the border between them.
Actually, person who can work only with PC may smoothly adjust to the telework, but this is not the case for other field"s worker. We need to discern whether the telework extend the working hour and increase the stress of the job.
